Description: The current skate park was built in 2003; the CDC Board plans to double the size to better accommodate skateboards, scooters, BMX bikes and mountain bikes.
Status: Request for Proposals (RFP’s) have been received and a consultant has been selected for the re-design and renovation of the current skate park. The public will be invited to give input on the design.
6/9/17 – SPA Skateparks was selected as the consultant on this project. Representatives from SPA held a public meeting in April to get input from the skatepark users. Both kids and adults gave their input on the design. A follow-up meeting was held in May to present SPA’s conceptual design of the skatepark. The plan was well received and SPA will now finalize the drawings and construction documents. Once documents are completed the construction phase will begin.
Park Loop Trail Connection
Address: Squires to North Colony Blvd.
Description: This will begin at the west section of Squires and travel along the drainage channel and connect to Vaden St. and then to the trail along Taylor St. The second section will begin at the intersection of Squires St. and Taylor St. across from BB Owen School and travel south, bridging over the drainage channel and along the gas easement to the west side of the fire station, making the connection to the Park Loop Trail on the south side of N. Colony Blvd.
Landscaping, Beautification and Image Enhancements
An on-going annual effort to improve our public spaces (parks, city facilities, roadways, etc.) by adding tree plantings, landscaping, irrigation and public art.
Stewart Creek Park

6/9/17 – Entry Feature – The current entry sign at the park has been removed and is being replaced with a new stone entry feature. The new sign will consist of a large engraved stone located within a raised, stone planting bed located in the median at the entrance of the park. Landscaping will be included in the median and along the sides of the road, adjacent to the new entry sign.
6/9/17 – Trees & Irrigation –
Twelve trees were planted to replace trees lost as the result of past flooding. New irrigation plans have been designed that will address issues in the existing irrigation system and will allow for irrigation connections for trees planted in the future.
6/9/17 – Fishing Pier –
This project is gathering steam as the design evolves and headway is made through the Corps regulatory process. The fishing pier will be located near the point, which was formerly the location of the old boat ramp, it will be partially covered and will have an accessible walkway.
Bridges Cemetery Restoration

6/9/17 – This historic site located in our city has recently been designated as a Historic Texas Cemetery by the Texas Historical Commission. The last project at the cemetery consisted of a survey that provided a list of headstones that are in need of repair. This project will address repairing and restoring the headstones. Special care is required for this project and our contractor is knowledgeable and experienced with this type of restoration. In addition to the headstone restoration, a fence along the alley side of the cemetery will be replaced. The project will begin in early July and should take 2-3 months.
